Do You Know What Is In Your Beauty Products?

Just because a product says "natural" doesn't mean it's necessarily good for you to use. It is important to take precaution when choosing facial creams, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, moisturizers and any other personal products. Many of these products contain extremely harmful chemicals including one linked to causing what can only be labeled as an "epidemic" of skin allergies and other skin issues.

Using a product once is not really the issues, but when you think about how many products we put on our skin each day, day after day, month after month, we are putting ourselves at risk for skin problems.

A panel of Dermatologists released a new report of a specific chemical called methylisothiazolinone (try saying that out loud) also known as MI which has lead to a massive increase in cases of eczema and other horrible skin allergies. The U.S. and Europe are reporting MI as safe and non-toxic but many dermatologists and doctors are trying to put an immediate ax on the use of MI.

Over the years, MI has been mixed with other preservatives so that the concentration is rarely low. However as other chemicals were axed (due to skin allergy outbreaks) MI is still allowed and the percentage of it's use has increased.

While some companies have chosen to eliminate the use of MI, there are still many companies who are choosing to keep it in their products at the moment.

I urge you to always read the labels of the beauty products you choose to put on your skin and body. If you are having trouble choosing the proper face products, please call or email me to set up a one on one appointment with me. Do your research! Live happy, live well.

LED LIGHT THERAPY

Did you know that Light therapy (also known as heliotherapy) dates back to the days of the Ancient Greeks and is known to have health benefits. In fact, many ancient cultured practiced different forms of light therapy in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome as well. It is the application of light energy to the skin for healing benefits.  Exposure to natural daylight or light using lasers or instruments used by dermatologists, estheticians, and plastic surgeons, can treat sleep disorders and some psychiatric disorders. Light therapy can treat and heal acne, eczema and other common skin disorders. One of the main benefits of light therapy and the exposure to light is the skin's production of vitamin D.

Here at DePianoSkin, light therapy is used to heal the skin of impurities, regenerate sin cells and promote healing using specific light frequencies. LED (Light Emitting Diodes) have the ability to produce the same light frequencies that a laser can produce without damaging any tissue. LED light therapy is an FDA approved cosmetic procedure that is painless, safe, and effective. The treatment are non-invasive, non-abrasive and uses no heat of any kind.

LED light therapy is showing effective results for treating aging skin, rosacea, acne and other skin conditions. There is no pain and no downtime! This is a procedure that I use on most of my clients and in most of the facials I give because I see a successful results.

LED LIGHT THERAPY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
You should not seek treatments in Light Therapy if you are pregnant, have epilepsy, thyroid conditions, or if you are photo-allergic and taking medications that cause light sensitivity.

Need A Skin "Pick Me Up?"

We spend lots of time getting ready to go out with friends, on a date, or to a party. The right clothes, shoes and hair-do can make you feel on top of the world. What about great skin? Have you done a mirror check before you are about to leave, and your skin and makeup aren't quite right? Try these fabulous easy tips that can save you time and heartache when it comes to your skin... especially right before a night out on the town!

Keep your eye cream, toner and moisturizer in the refrigerator. This not only feels great on a hot day or when your skin is tired, but it also will help with a dull complexion. Exfoliate your skin; you may notice that your skin can appear dull due to the build up of dead skin cells on its surface. Don't forget to moisturize!

If you want a good "pick me up" for your skin, splash some extra cold water onto your skin. Afterwards, rub an ice cube all over your face for a few moments. This will stimulate blood circulation and tighten large pores.

Do you enjoy taking photographs but your skin just isn't cooperating on film? Try mixing your moisturizer and foundation together and applying it with a brush. It will give your skin a dewey radiance, reflect light and keep you looking fabulous in all your photos! You and your skin will be ready for your closeup!

The 12 Beauty Tips of Christmas

1) It’s the most wonderfully dry season of all. Make sure you are using the right moisturizer for YOUR skin! Applying lotion and moisturizer right after you step out of the shower seals in the moisture that your skin has just absorbed. Not sure of what is best to use? Schedule a consult with me!

2) Keep your hand off you skin! Your hands and nails have bacteria that can make breakouts worse! Stop picking! Though it may be tough to wait it out, leaving your pimple alone is the best way to avoid infections and possible scarring.

3) Wear your sunglasses! Sunglasses can help prevent lines around your eyes! Never too young to prevent wrinkles!

4) Do you want mistletoe ready lips? Use a bit of baking soda with water to exfoliate your lips! Only exfoliate your skin once a week during the winter – you don’t want to dry out your skin!

5) Alcohol dehydrates the skin (which causes wrinkles) while inflaming tissue. Combat these effects by watering down wine and liquor with club soda and drinking a glass of water between alcoholic beverages.

6) Take a shower before you workout! It’s better to have clean sweat than sweat mixed with makeup and all day dirt and oils sitting on your face!

7) Keep a journal of your facial fillers! You should know when and where you got them and how long they last!

8) Toilet seat covers work nearly as well as store bought blotting papers! When you are on the go and notice your skin in shiny, step into the bathroom and blot that oil away!

9) Wash your makeup brushes! Your brushes build up bacteria after each use, which can cause breakouts! Don’t know what to wash your brushes with? Read this:

10) When you purchase a new skincare product – whether for your face or body, do a test spot on a small area before spreading it all over! If you see any irritation, avoid using and consult with your skin guru!

11) Wear your sunscreen every single day! Just because it’s cloudy doesn’t mean your skin is protected!

12) The best way to clean and exfoliate your skin from home is to own a Clarisonic Sonic Skin Cleansing System…. this product cleans your skin better than any washcloth or face scrub. Call me to order!

Palmolive Dish Detergent

Palmolive and it's many uses are widely unknown by many women. Sure, it will wash your dishes properly and leave your kitchen sink smelling of lemon, apple or lavender. But did you know that you can use it outside of the kitchen?

I know of two really handy uses for Palmolive Dish Detergent. First of all, I highly recommend the lavender... it does the job best and it smells fantastic.

While many do not know that you should wash your makeup brushes on a somewhat regular basis, those who know about that rule don't always know what to use! Sure, you can purchase the makeup brush cleaner that they sell at the makeup counters or you can use your shampoo at home. However, the best soap to kill bacteria is Lavender Palmolive Dish Detergent. Simply mix a bowl of hot water and a few drops of the soap. Dip the tip of your brush in the bowl and suds it around in a circular motion in the palm of your hand. Let the water run down the brush (bristles pointed down) until water runs clear. To dry, place brushes on a washcloth on the counter.

Here is my favorite of the two uses. Palmolive Dish Detergent (in Lavender) is beyond fabulous to clean your bling bling! Take a small (clear, glass) dish and fill with warm water. Add a few drops of the soap and twirl around so that it mixes. Hold your ring or bling bling in the dish and swirl it in the water a few times. Place your jewelry gently at the bottom of the dish and let sit over night or until the water is cool. When you take your ring out, you will notice junk floating about in the dish. You can thank your Palmolive Dish Detergent for cleaning all the ins and outs of your jewelry!

Are you going to a bachelorette party or a bridal shower? Next time, grab a bottle of Palmolive to go along with you gift and label it "RING CLEANER" and instructions! Enjoy!

My Special Hangover Facial

Did you know that after a few drinks your perception, body and personal boundaries are not the only things being affected? Your skin is being affected by your Friday night happy hour and bottomless mimosas. Skin is the largest organ in the human body. Your skin protects your muscles, internal organs and bones. It allows you to feel and react to heat and cold using blood to regulate your body temperature. Your skin is a huge part of you and your body, therefore, you should take care of it.

Do you ever suffer from hangovers? Your skin suffers too! Here at DePiano Skin, I offer the "hangover facial" which I created for tired, dehydrated, and stressed out skin - caused by a night of partying. I specifically designed it to be comforting, nurturing and relaxing for both you and your skin. The hangover facial is incredibly hydrating and is pain free. Using exfoliation and no extractions to revive your "hung over" skin will de-puff your eye area, hydrate and smooth your skin, and give it a healthy glow.  Your hangover facial will include a five minute facial massage followed by a fifteen minute four-layer mask which hydrates your skin. The final touches include LED lights, which reduce redness, blotchiness, puffiness and contour your face. To create a deep state of relaxation, incredible aromatherapy is used. At the end of your facial, you and your skin will leave feeling well rested and hydrated. You will be ready for another night out!

My special hangover facial was featured on a segment of My Fox LA channel 11. To see the segment, visit my YouTube page. Call or email me to book your next hangover facial. Your skin will appreciate it.
