Have you noticed that when you travel your skin can sometimes freak out a bit? It’s not just because of the stress from packing for yourself, your family, making sure the pets are taken care of and hoping to get to the airport on time. Your surroundings are different, the weather or climate is different, you aren’t on your normal routine of eating and drinking water, the food is different, and even the pollution can be different. It’s not to say that one or the other is better, but it’s not what you are used to.
When you travel, wherever your destination is, the weather, humidity level, the season and even the wind can be factors in how your skin is affected. It’s not to say that when you go somewhere else, you won’t be happy with your skin. However, most of the time a new weather-related setting can cause one’s skin to break out, become dry or even produce more oil. If you are heading somewhere that is on the humid side, perhaps reach for your lighter moisturizer, and if you are off to somewhere that is less humid, grab your heavy moisturizer.
If you are someone who eats incredibly healthy, or if you follow strict rules (like no gluten, no dairy, no wheat, etc.) and you are traveling, it may be hard to stay with that same routine - especially if you are staying with friends or family who don’t eat the same way you do. Remember that a change in diet can cause a change in your skin. If you are going somewhere foreign, know that certain types of food are more prevalent in the diet than you are used to. Example: If you are traveling to Mexico, perhaps you will be eating more corn than you usually do, which turns to sugar.
Traveling can be stressful, especially with a big family or small children. To avoid any added stress, plan ahead. The best thing you can do is plan ahead and don’t wait until the last minute to do anything. Have your suitcase out ahead of time and pack gradually. Make a list of all the things you can think of that you need to pack, from underwear to your swimsuits to your phone & electronics' chargers. Having a list will help you remember all the little things. If you are traveling somewhere that you plan to visit again, save your list because you can always whip it out in the future and pack again. Because airport food or food on the road (if you are driving) maybe isn’t the healthiest, pick up a few snacks or make a few snacks to take with you - no excuses for eating bad foods while on the go - which can throw your skin out of whack!
All in all, the best thing you can do is be prepared. Make sure you have the right products with you for dry skin, oily skin, humid weather, dry weather, sunscreen, spot treatment, a great moisturizer, sunscreen etc. You should always, always, always speak to your skin guru prior to your trip to make sure you have what you need to have a wonderful trip without any skin issues!

Don't Skimp On Caring For Your Skin!
With everyone’s fluctuating budget and lack of disposable income after the holidays, it’s important to not skimp on caring for your skin! Not everyone can always afford costly skin products all of the time, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t tend to your skincare needs!
I always encourage my clients to find the very best local drugstore products... to tide you over until you can afford the better products. While there are much better products for your skin (most of which I carry at my spa), here are list of products that I think are good to get you through the rough times until you can get the good stuff! The better you take care of your skin, the better it will take care of you.

The Next Generation in Light Therapy Rejuvenation
Who are we? Men and women! What do we want? No more wrinkles, age spots, and smoother skin! When do we want it? NOW! How do we get it? Only with Deborah DePiano!
It’s true! Men and women of all ages are always on the look out for the latest, greatest way to improve the appearance of their skin. There is always a new lotion, potion or pill that claims it can make you look like you were in your 20 again. With a new “younger you” look, you will also deal with pain and a broken bank account… does that sound familiar? It makes me think of the movie Death Becomes Her - the price for a younger face and a young tight body??? Your soul!
However, now at Depiano Skin, you can achieve younger looking, smoother skin with the newest treatment, The Next Generation in Light Therapy Rejuvenation! It is pain free with no discomfort, it will not cost you an arm, leg, your soul or break the bank and you will see results almost immediately. Does that sound too good to be true?
Real clients are loving the results: reduced signs of aging and skin damage, evened-out skin tone, healthier, younger looking skin, smaller pores with no downtime or recovery time. The majority of clients will need anywhere from 6-8 treatments for the absolute best long-term results. Results can last a long time if maintained monthly or bi-monthly, depending on how the skin is cared for after. The better you care for your skin, the longer the results can last! “Two weeks after I had the treatment, my skin still looked amazing! My skin tone was much more even,” a new client said.
For 2015, make it a goal or a new years resolution to get your skin looking as fabulous as can be. When we look fabulous, we feel fabulous. With healthy looking skin, we can tackle whatever comes our way this year. A gentleman in his late forties, with old acne scars, who was very emotionally traumatized as a teenager due to his skin, recently had just one treatment. He called a few days later to say that he wanted to hug me over the phone because he couldn’t believe the results from one treatment. One treatment made all the difference and gave him some confidence. That is the way we should start 2015… with confidence and gorgeous skin!

Is Your Makeup Aging You?
Did you know that your makeup can be aging you? The same tips and routines we used in our 20s and 30s might not be the way to go in our 40’s and 50’s! While there are always exceptions to the rules (depending on your age, skin tone, lifestyle etc) here are some safe tips that are good for anyone and everyone who is on the mature side.
Wearing dark lipstick, especially with blue undertones, can make your lips look small and cold. When you are picking a lipstick, make sure you are picking something with a color that works for your skin tone and make sure it pops! Need help? Go to any Sephora or makeup counter and ask for their opinion!
Who doesn’t love shimmer? Well as we age, shimmer might not love you back. Luminous highlighters or blushes can settle into any fine lines, wrinkles or creases and highlight your imperfections. Try setting your makeup with a hydrating mist to keep a natural glow without any shimmer. Also, stay away from frosted lipsticks and keep the shimmer off the eyes! Glittery or shiny eyeshadows or eyeshadow creams can age your eyes. It minimizes contouring of the face and puts your wrinkles on display! Try matte shadows to define the crease and keep the shimmer under control and to a minimum. If you are unsure of how to use glitter and shimmer the proper way, head on over to Sephora! There are makeup artists there to help you and guide you on how to use shimmer and glitter the right way that makes your eyes pop - not your wrinkles! Try using a natural looking highlighter on the inner corner of the eye. This will make your eyes POP-especially in photos!
Brows are so important - they frame your face! Are you losing your eyebrows? Are you sick of filling them in? You might be filling them in too dark and too strong! This is a huge NO-NO! Harsh eyebrows can distract people and take away from your eyes and facial structure. Your eyebrows are super important but they should never be the main event!

5 Reasons To Start Eating Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are a new "trend" in North America but have been a staple food in Mexico for centuries! Chia seeds come from a species of flowing plant in the Lamiaceae (Mint) family and most evidence shows that humans began using chia seeds around 3500 BC. Aztecs and Mayans consumed chia seeds regularly, grinding them into flour, pressing them for oil and drinking them mixed with water.
Here are a few things you should know about Chia Seeds.
1 - Chia seeds can asset in weight loss! They reduce unruly food cravings and can also help you feel full faster! Chia seeds absorb 10 times their weight in water which creates a bulky gel.
2 - Chia seeds can reduce your blood pressure.
3 - Chia seeds are a great source of Omega 3! They have more than salmon! The nutritional benefits of chia seeds include fiber, omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants and much more – even protein!
4 - They are easier to digest than flax seeds and do not have to be ground up!
5 - Chia seeds also fortifies bones. In just one ounce of chia seeds, you receive roughly 20% of your daily recommended amount of calcium which supports bone health and can prevent osteoporosis.
Chia seed oil has amazing beauty benefits as well. Again, with chia seeds having the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids, they are anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants, can restore moisture, eliminate redness and prevent unwanted wrinkles.

Do You Know What Is In Your Beauty Products?
Just because a product says "natural" doesn't mean it's necessarily good for you to use. It is important to take precaution when choosing facial creams, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, moisturizers and any other personal products. Many of these products contain extremely harmful chemicals including one linked to causing what can only be labeled as an "epidemic" of skin allergies and other skin issues.
Using a product once is not really the issues, but when you think about how many products we put on our skin each day, day after day, month after month, we are putting ourselves at risk for skin problems.
A panel of Dermatologists released a new report of a specific chemical called methylisothiazolinone (try saying that out loud) also known as MI which has lead to a massive increase in cases of eczema and other horrible skin allergies. The U.S. and Europe are reporting MI as safe and non-toxic but many dermatologists and doctors are trying to put an immediate ax on the use of MI.
Over the years, MI has been mixed with other preservatives so that the concentration is rarely low. However as other chemicals were axed (due to skin allergy outbreaks) MI is still allowed and the percentage of it's use has increased.
While some companies have chosen to eliminate the use of MI, there are still many companies who are choosing to keep it in their products at the moment.
I urge you to always read the labels of the beauty products you choose to put on your skin and body. If you are having trouble choosing the proper face products, please call or email me to set up a one on one appointment with me. Do your research! Live happy, live well.
