Is Your Makeup Aging You?

Did you know that your makeup can be aging you? The same tips and routines we used in our 20s and 30s might not be the way to go in our 40’s and 50’s! While there are always exceptions to the rules (depending on your age, skin tone, lifestyle etc) here are some safe tips that are good for anyone and everyone who is on the mature side.

Wearing dark lipstick, especially with blue undertones, can make your lips look small and cold. When you are picking a lipstick, make sure you are picking something with a color that works for your skin tone and make sure it pops! Need help? Go to any Sephora or makeup counter and ask for their opinion!

Who doesn’t love shimmer? Well as we age, shimmer might not love you back. Luminous highlighters or blushes can settle into any fine lines, wrinkles or creases and highlight your imperfections. Try setting your makeup with a hydrating mist to keep a natural glow without any shimmer. Also, stay away from frosted lipsticks and keep the shimmer off the eyes! Glittery or shiny eyeshadows or eyeshadow creams can age your eyes. It minimizes contouring of the face and puts your wrinkles on display! Try matte shadows to define the crease and keep the shimmer under control and to a minimum. If you are unsure of how to use glitter and shimmer the proper way, head on over to Sephora! There are makeup artists there to help you and guide you on how to use shimmer and glitter the right way that makes your eyes pop - not your wrinkles! Try using a natural looking highlighter on the inner corner of the eye. This will make your eyes POP-especially in photos!

Brows are so important - they frame your face! Are you losing your eyebrows? Are you sick of filling them in? You might be filling them in too dark and too strong! This is a huge NO-NO! Harsh eyebrows can distract people and take away from your eyes and facial structure. Your eyebrows are super important but they should never be the main event!

5 Reasons To Start Eating Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are a new "trend" in North America but have been a staple food in Mexico for centuries! Chia seeds come from a species of flowing plant in the Lamiaceae (Mint) family and most evidence shows that humans began using chia seeds around 3500 BC. Aztecs and Mayans consumed chia seeds regularly, grinding them into flour, pressing them for oil and drinking them mixed with water.

Here are a few things you should know about Chia Seeds.

1 - Chia seeds can asset in weight loss! They reduce unruly food cravings and can also help you feel full faster! Chia seeds absorb 10 times their weight in water which creates a bulky gel.

2 - Chia seeds can reduce your blood pressure.

3 - Chia seeds are a great source of Omega 3! They have more than salmon! The nutritional benefits of chia seeds include fiber,  omega fatty acids, calcium, antioxidants and much more – even protein!

4 - They are easier to digest than flax seeds and do not have to be ground up!

5 - Chia seeds also fortifies bones. In just one ounce of chia seeds, you receive roughly 20% of your daily recommended amount of calcium which supports bone health and can prevent osteoporosis.

Chia seed oil has amazing beauty benefits as well. Again, with chia seeds having the benefits of Omega 3 fatty acids, they are anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants, can restore moisture, eliminate redness and prevent unwanted wrinkles.

Do You Know What Is In Your Beauty Products?

Just because a product says "natural" doesn't mean it's necessarily good for you to use. It is important to take precaution when choosing facial creams, shampoos, conditioners, soaps, moisturizers and any other personal products. Many of these products contain extremely harmful chemicals including one linked to causing what can only be labeled as an "epidemic" of skin allergies and other skin issues.

Using a product once is not really the issues, but when you think about how many products we put on our skin each day, day after day, month after month, we are putting ourselves at risk for skin problems.

A panel of Dermatologists released a new report of a specific chemical called methylisothiazolinone (try saying that out loud) also known as MI which has lead to a massive increase in cases of eczema and other horrible skin allergies. The U.S. and Europe are reporting MI as safe and non-toxic but many dermatologists and doctors are trying to put an immediate ax on the use of MI.

Over the years, MI has been mixed with other preservatives so that the concentration is rarely low. However as other chemicals were axed (due to skin allergy outbreaks) MI is still allowed and the percentage of it's use has increased.

While some companies have chosen to eliminate the use of MI, there are still many companies who are choosing to keep it in their products at the moment.

I urge you to always read the labels of the beauty products you choose to put on your skin and body. If you are having trouble choosing the proper face products, please call or email me to set up a one on one appointment with me. Do your research! Live happy, live well.

LED LIGHT THERAPY

Did you know that Light therapy (also known as heliotherapy) dates back to the days of the Ancient Greeks and is known to have health benefits. In fact, many ancient cultured practiced different forms of light therapy in Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome as well. It is the application of light energy to the skin for healing benefits.  Exposure to natural daylight or light using lasers or instruments used by dermatologists, estheticians, and plastic surgeons, can treat sleep disorders and some psychiatric disorders. Light therapy can treat and heal acne, eczema and other common skin disorders. One of the main benefits of light therapy and the exposure to light is the skin's production of vitamin D.

Here at DePianoSkin, light therapy is used to heal the skin of impurities, regenerate sin cells and promote healing using specific light frequencies. LED (Light Emitting Diodes) have the ability to produce the same light frequencies that a laser can produce without damaging any tissue. LED light therapy is an FDA approved cosmetic procedure that is painless, safe, and effective. The treatment are non-invasive, non-abrasive and uses no heat of any kind.

LED light therapy is showing effective results for treating aging skin, rosacea, acne and other skin conditions. There is no pain and no downtime! This is a procedure that I use on most of my clients and in most of the facials I give because I see a successful results.

LED LIGHT THERAPY IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
You should not seek treatments in Light Therapy if you are pregnant, have epilepsy, thyroid conditions, or if you are photo-allergic and taking medications that cause light sensitivity.

Need A Skin "Pick Me Up?"

We spend lots of time getting ready to go out with friends, on a date, or to a party. The right clothes, shoes and hair-do can make you feel on top of the world. What about great skin? Have you done a mirror check before you are about to leave, and your skin and makeup aren't quite right? Try these fabulous easy tips that can save you time and heartache when it comes to your skin... especially right before a night out on the town!

Keep your eye cream, toner and moisturizer in the refrigerator. This not only feels great on a hot day or when your skin is tired, but it also will help with a dull complexion. Exfoliate your skin; you may notice that your skin can appear dull due to the build up of dead skin cells on its surface. Don't forget to moisturize!

If you want a good "pick me up" for your skin, splash some extra cold water onto your skin. Afterwards, rub an ice cube all over your face for a few moments. This will stimulate blood circulation and tighten large pores.

Do you enjoy taking photographs but your skin just isn't cooperating on film? Try mixing your moisturizer and foundation together and applying it with a brush. It will give your skin a dewey radiance, reflect light and keep you looking fabulous in all your photos! You and your skin will be ready for your closeup!
